Ceist:65 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment if there are EC funds available for the cleaning and improving of beach facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Beach Facilities Funding.
The cleaning of beaches and the improvement of beach facilities are not eligible works for inclusion in the programmes for which my Department are responsible under the community support framework. I am not aware at this juncture of any EC funds available for this work. However, my Department made grants of £500,000 to local authorities in 1989 to carry out amenity works at beaches throughout the country. The provision for such grants is being increased to £1 million this year.
