Vol. 397 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kildare School Teacher Numbers.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

170 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the total number of teachers allocated to Kildare Vocational Education Committee for the year 1989-1990; the total number of teachers involved under each subject heading; if any subjects are being taught in Kildare Vocational Education Committee schools in respect of which no specific teacher allocation has been made; if subjects have been dropped; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to disclose details of a VEC's allocation of teaching staff, as requested, as these matters are confidential between the VEC and my Department.

The question of the utilisation of VEC's teacher allocation under the various subject headings is a matter for the Chief Executive Officer and the committee in consultation with the principal teachers in the different schools within the scheme.

My Department has, in the past few days, received from County Kildare VEC an appeal against its teacher allocation for the current school session, 1989-90, and this appeal is currently under consideration by my Department.
