Ceist:27 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the successful broadleaf planting programme which was undertaken by a group (details supplied); and if he has any plans to expand this type of project.
Written Answers. - Tree Planting Programme.
I am aware of the tree planting programme in the case referred to which was undertaken in the context of National Tree Week, and it epitomizes the very successful week, both in terms of planting and awareness, which was organised by the National Tree Council of Ireland.
Within the overall policy of increasing the number of deciduous trees in the country, generous grants are available to encourage the planting of broadleaf species and diversification of species, in particular the encouragement of broadleaves form important aspects of the forestry programme 1989-93 now under negotiation with the EC Commission.
