Ceist:28 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline his current position in relation to mineral development on Croagh Patrick, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Mineral Development.
There has been no change in my position in relation to the possibility of mineral development at Croagh Patrick since I informed the House on 20 July 1989 that no mining lease will be granted by me unless a full and detailed environmental impact assessment has been carried out by an independent expert acceptable to my Department. No application for a mining lease at Croagh Patrick has been received by my Department. Any such application that may be made must satisfy my Department that the development proposed is fully compatible with environmental requirements.
