Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Garda Activity Levels.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

206 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of the serious concerns expressed by local residents, he will increase the level and intensity of Garda activity in the area of north Clondalkin, Dublin, to combat the increasing levels of vandalism and lawlessness of a small minority which is terrorising the area.

The Garda authorities are aware of the concern of local residents about crime in the north Clondalkin area. Special measures, including extra patrols by the divisional task force, have been taken to deal with incidents of crime and vandalism and these have met with a good measure of success. The Garda authorities are continuing to take all necessary steps to deal with the situation.

Two members from Ronanstown station were assigned to community policing duties in the area earlier this year. The Garda authorities consider that the scheme has been a success in building upon the already good relations between the local gardaí and the community and is effective in reducing local levels of vandalism and other law breaking. They intend to assign additional members to community policing duties in the locality as soon as circumstances permit.
