Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Road Grants.

William Cotter

Ceist:

251 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate funds to Monaghan County Council in the course of the current year in order that essential works can be carried out at the Monaghan Bray-Jubilee Road junction beside Clones, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that Monaghan County Council are at present examining a number of alternative schemes for road improvements at this location. On receipt of the local authority's proposals, the question of road grant funding will be considered.

The 1990 Exchequer provisions for road grants have been fully allocated and there are no funds available from which additional allocations could be made at this time. However, subject to the local authority's proposals being acceptable on cost and engineering grounds, consideration will be given to the provision of funding for the works when the road grants for 1991 are being determined.
