Vol. 397 No. 9

Written Answers. - Adamstown, Wexford, School Accommodation.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

333 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education if she will clarify the up to date position concerning a proposed extension to Adamstown vocational school in County Wexford, in view of its increasing and projected further increase in enrolment numbers and the deficiencies in the existing facilities in the school; and when construction work will commence.

In 1987 a major extension to Adamstown vocational school was completed.

In 1989 my Department received an application from County Wexford VEC for the provision of a new school building or a further extension at Adamstown vocational school.

Following a review of the application it was considered that, bearing in mind the long-term demographic trend, no further permanent accommodation was required at Adamstown vocational school. However, it was indicated that an application for temporary accommodation at the school would be given careful consideration within the Department. No such application has been received by my Department to date.
