Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cavan Sewerage Scheme.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

166 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding Virginia sewerage scheme, County Cavan; when he will sanction same; if his attention has been drawn to the need for a treatment plant in Virginia; and if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that there is raw sewage flowing into Lough Ramor as a result of the absence of a sewage treatment plant.

I am aware of the difficulties caused by the existing sewage disposal arrangements at Virginia. Preliminary proposals for a new scheme which were submitted to my Department by Cavan County Council have been considered and the council have been asked to review the outfall arrangements. The scheme will be further considered when that review is completed.
