Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shortage of Typists.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

76 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health the reason there is a shortage of typists in the county clinic in Clonmel, County Tipperary, who are required to type the reports of the health inspectors; if he will provide the necessary finance to the South-Eastern Health Board in order that two typists can be immediately appointed to the county clinic so that the extraordinary delays in appointing tenants to local authority houses, caused by the non-availability of the inspector's reports, will not be allowed to continue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under the provisions of current personnel policy, health agencies have been facilitated with the flexibility to make routine permanent or temporary appointments without reference to my Department subject to operation within overall financial allocation and staffing levels. Accordingly, the South-Eastern Health Board are in a position to target priority staffing areas while operating within overall parameters. My Department have been in contact with the South-Eastern Health Board and the board will be reviewing the situation to see what improvements can be made within available resources.
