Vol. 398 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Treatment.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

75 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Health, in light of the two year waiting list for dental treatment by medical card holders, if he will outline his immediate plans to alleviate the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Government have made a special allocation of £3 million available to the health boards from the 1990 budget to bring about improvements in dental services for adults and in orthodontic services for children. About £2.2 million of that sum is being given to the health boards for adult dental services. The health boards have already been advised of the amounts they are receiving to cover the period to the end of June 1990 and they will receive subsequent allocations on the basis of the outputs they achieve in this period. I am taking this approach in order to achieve maximum value for the additional expenditure.
