Vol. 398 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Severance Gratuity.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

50 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the present position regarding a pension/severance gratuity in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath having regard to the options offered to persons in similar situations in 1989.

The options referred to were available to members of An Forsa Cosanta Áitiúil who were serving on full-time security duties on the 1 January 1989, and included a severance gratuity in the case of members who opted to be stood down from such duties. As the person in question was not so serving, he is not eligible for a severance gratuity. However, he is, and has been since 1972, in receipt of a service pension under the Defence Forces pensions schemes.
