Vol. 398 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bilateral Aid Programme.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

36 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the arrangements which he is making to introduce new projects in our bilateral aid countries as existing projects reach finality in order to ensure the continued survival of an Irish bilateral aid programme.

Our bilateral aid programme for developing countries is kept under continuous review to ensure that as existing projects reach maturity new projects are available for consideration as replacements. This is normal practice in the programme and involves discussions between both donor and recipient countries-organisations.

It is expected that £0.87 million, or 9 per cent of the £9.6 million allocated to the bilateral aid programme will be spent on new projects this year.
