Vol. 398 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cork Hospital Services.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

68 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he has any plans to include public representatives on the working group looking into the rationalisation and re-organisation of hospital services in the greater Cork area; and the reason public representatives were excluded from the working group by his Department.

The membership of the working group to draw up a plan for the development of hospital services in Cork city and county has not yet been finalised.

The Southern Health Board and the boards of the Mercy Hospital and of the South Infirmary — Victoria Hospital have been invited to nominate representatives within a defined framework. The Southern Health Board will be represented by the chairman of the board, the chief executive officer, the general manager of Cork Regional Hospital and consultant medical representatives from the Regional Hospital, Mallow Hospital and Bantry Hospital.

The voluntary hospitals will each be represented by the chairman, a management representative and a consultant medical representative. Public representatives occupying any of these positions are not excluded from membership of the group.
