Vol. 398 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Donegal Land Purchase.

Joe Sherlock

Ceist:

54 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the purchase of lands in the Doochary/Fintown area of County Donegal by a private company on the basis that they are engaged in tree planting; if his attention has further been drawn to allegations locally that holdings there have been undervalued by the purchasers; if he was any plans to curb or monitor such purchases; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of individuals and companies have made applications for grant approval for afforestation purposes relating to land they have recently purchased or are in the process of purchasing in the Doochary/Fintown area of County Donegal. I am not aware of the allegations referred to. The terms of land purchase by private individuals or companies for afforestation purposes, is a matter for the parties themselves to agree on and is not one on which I should intervene.
