68 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education the reason arrangements are not being made to keep a record of the number of handicapped pupils fully integrated into ordinary mainstream classes.
As explained in my reply to an earlier question from the Deputy on 6 February, I see difficulties in asking schools to keep a separate register of pupils with learning difficulties in that such an arrangement may militate against successful integration of such pupils.
I am, however, having the matter kept under review in my Department in case it may be possible to have certain information collected as part of my Department's annual statistical returns.
