Vol. 398 No. 8

Written Answers. - International Organisations' Employees.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

67 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Finance the number of Irish personnel who are employed in international organisations, such as (1) the United Nations and its related bodies (2) the OECD (3) the Council of Europe and (4) the European Community and its institutions; when they were appointed; when they are due to retire; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I am sure the Deputy knows, I have no direct responsibility for recruitment to the international organisations mentioned in his question, each of which operates independently. However my Department pursues a policy of actively encouraging and assisting Irish applicants for posts in international organisations.

The following table gives a representation of the best information available to my Department on the number of Irish personnel employed in various international organisations. Information about their dates of appointment and retirement dates is not available outside the organisations concerned.
