Vol. 398 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Kerry Coastal Erosion.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

83 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will provide funding to combat coastal erosion at Ballybunion, County Kerry, in view of the erosion which has occurred at this location in recent years.

I have outlined my views in regard to coast protection generally when repling to Dáil Questions on 13 February 1990 and 15 March 1990.

In the case of Ballybunion, I understand that the proposals for coast protection works previously made by Kerry County Council to the Commissioners of Public Works were not processed due to the removal of beach materials. Any new proposal to extend funds on coast protection at Ballybunion would first have to address the long-standing problem of beach removals. In this connection, Kerry County Council is in touch with my Department concerning a further order prohibiting the removal of such material in the Ballybunion area.
