Written Answers. - Pesticide Usage.

Ceist:

84 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Marine if he will issue a statement regarding the safety of the use of the pesticide Nuvan 500 EC for the control of sea lice; if he is satisfied that the use of this chemical by companies is properly monitored; and if arrangements are in place to have medically qualified personnel available to such companies to deal with any health issues arising as a consequence.

I would refer the Deputy to the comprehensive reply which I gave to a question on this matter on 30 January 1990.

In relation to the final part of the Deputy's question, I would draw his attention to the provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 1989 and the regime now in place under the terms of that Act in relation to safety at work.
