77 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he will make a statement on the proposed construction of diesel cars at the CIE Works, Inchicore, Dublin 8; if there is a programme for the construction of diesel cars; the number of diesel cars expected to be built in the current year and for each of the next four years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A proposal has been made by the board of CIE to construct diesel railcars at Inchicore. This proposal, which would involve substantial expenditure by the board, is under detailed examination at present in my Department. I hope to be in a position to make a decision on the matter in the near future.
