Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

149 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a complete list of all allocations made by him from national lottery funds since the inception of the national lottery to date in respect of projects in Dublin city and county.

In each of the years 1988, 1989 and 1990 the Government allocated £750,000 to my Department from national lottery funds for once-off grants to projects being undertaken by voluntary organisations throughout the country.

In addition, in 1989, an allocation of £50,000 was made available for a special pilot scheme, known as the voluntary work option, to assist voluntary organisations providing opportunities for unemployed people to become involved in their activities.

Details of projects funded in Dublin city and county which have so far been funded from these funds are set out in the attached tabular statement.

In 1988 a sum of £100,000 was allocated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to enable the society to undertake a major programme of personal development and home management courses around the country. Over 5,000 families were catered for in these courses which provided practical advice and assistance to people with whom the society are in contact. A further sum of £100,000 was provided towards the setting up of a loan guarantee fund to assist people who are in debt to moneylenders.
