Written Answers. - Wexford School Alterations.

Ceist:

209 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education, in relation to the application of the Convent of Mercy School, St. John's Road, Wexford, for funding in respect of alterations (details supplied), if she will ensure that the necessary work will be carried out during the summer holidays; and when moneys due in respect of repair works on the roof and art room will be paid.

My Department are awaiting a report from their professional advisers in the district Office of Public Works in relation to the works referred to at the Convent of Mercy national school, Wexford. I understand that the necessary inspection will take place this week and when the relevant report is to hand the question of the sanction of a grant will be considered promptly and a decision conveyed to the school authorities.

The grant in respect of the works to the roof of the school will be paid at an early date to the school authorities. My Department are awaiting a certificate from their professional advisers in respect of the works to the arts and crafts room. I understand that this certificate will be available to my Department shortly and on receipt, arrangements will be made to pay the approved grant to the school authorities.
