Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - Access Facilities for Disabled Persons.

John Bruton

Ceist:

95 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Marine if he will list the offices used by his Department to which easy access by means of ramps and lifts does not exist for those using wheelchairs; the services provided in these offices; and the plans to improve access.

Wheelchair access facilities are in place at my Department's Dublin headquarters in Leeson Lane, while other outlying offices at St. Stephens Green, Eden Quay, Abbotstown, Dún Laoghaire, Howth, Castlebar, Cork and Galway are accessible for wheelchairs.

The offices used by the Department to which easy access does not exist for those using wheelchairs are as follows:

The harbour master's office in Dún Laoghaire and the harbour offices in the fishery harbour centres at Dunmore East, Castletownbere, Rossaveal and Killybegs.

While I am not aware that lack of wheelchair access has caused problems in these offices due to the nature of the activities conducted therein, I am making arrangements to have the matter reviewed.
