11 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Labour when decisions will be finalised on the FÁS discussion document on apprenticeship; if he will set up, in advance of final decisions, a monitoring committee representative of his Department, FÁS, employers, trade unions and the education sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The board of FAS are currently reviewing the submissions made to them in response to the publication of the FÁS document "Apprenticeship, a New Approach". Proposals for a future apprenticeship system will be submitted to me in due course.
I do not see the advantage of establishing in advance of final decisions a monitoring committee along the lines suggested by the Deputy. FÁS itself is representative of the various interests mentioned by the Deputy.
