Vol. 399 No. 1

Written Answers. - Wool Prices.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

58 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the substantial drop in price of wool this year from approximately 75 pence per pound last year to 33 pence per pound this year; and if he will take steps to alleviate this situation for sheep farmers.

I am aware that there has been a decline in wool prices this year. The price of wool fluctuates from time to time depending on the supply/demand position on world markets. Good returns were achieved in 1988 and 1989 which have to be set against this year's more difficult market.
