Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Empty House-Sites Purchase.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

125 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review the procedures required by his Department to enable Dublin Corporation to buy empty houses-sites in the North Wall Parish for Sheriff Street residents, as current procedures are lengthy and do not allow the flexibility required in current market conditions to acquire property; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's Memorandum No. N2/90 which issued to all housing authorities on 26 April 1990 notified amendments to the procedures to be followed for the provision/acquisition housing. They allow Dublin Corporation the necessary flexibility to purchase, within the limits of the capital allocation notified to them on 22 February 1990, the houses they need in the area referred to in the Deputy's question.

The purchase of sites for housing schemes is a matter for the housing authority subject to compliance with the procedures set out in my Department's Memorandum (No. N8/82) on the procedures to be followed and the standards to be applied in providing local authority dwellings. Such purchases do not require my sanction.
