Ceist:129 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment when he will enact regulations to allow the creation of taxi ranks in Mullingar and Athlone, County Westmeath; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received a request from Westmeath County Council to have public hire vehicle licences issued in respect of Mullingar — which would require the identification of appointed stands. My Department are already carrying out a limited review of the Public Service Vehicle Regulations and pending the outcome of that review I have deferred consideration of proposals of the type indicated by the Deputy.
