Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Brownstown (County Kildare) School Extension.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

166 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of an extension and extra facilities at Brownstown national school, The Curragh, County Kildare; if it is intended to proceed with the works involved in the current year or in 1991; the number of remaining development stages still to be processed before actual site work can begin; if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for these facilities; when she will give a final approval in respect of a contract; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Senior officials from my Department met with the chairman of the board of management of Brownstown national school, County Kildare, on 22 May 1990 in order to begin the process of agreeing a scheme for the school.

It is not possible to say at this stage when plans will be prepared, planning approval granted, tenders invited or when final approval for placing of contract will be granted because a scheme has not been agreed with the chairman at this time.

I am aware of the need for the updating of facilities and conditions at Brownstown national school, and it is my intention to provide a scheme for this school as soon as possible.
