Vol. 399 No. 4

Written Answers. - Importation of “Crack”.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

44 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Justice if there is any evidence that the drug known as "crack" has been imported into or used in Ireland; and the steps which he or the Garda authorities are taking to prevent the drug from coming to Ireland.

I am informed by the Garda authorites that they have no evidence of "crack" being available in this country. The Garda are, of course, alert to the dangers that can arise in this respect and are continuing to monitor the whole drug problem very closely. They are taking all appropriate measures to prevent the importation here of all illegal drugs, including "crack". In this they have the full co-operation of the customs authorities and the close international co-operation of other police and customs authorities.
