Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Schengen Agreement.

Roger T. Garland

Ceist:

118 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Justice if, once the Schengen Agreement is passed by the EC Council of Ministers, Ireland will refuse asylum in all cases where another EC country had already done so; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The draft "Schengen Agreement" relates to matters affecting border controls between five European countries of which Ireland is not one. It is not for consideration or approval by the Council of Ministers of the EC. It will not have any application in Ireland.
