Ceist:119 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Justice if he will rule out the introduction of ID cards of any description in Ireland.
Vol. 399 No. 10
119 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for Justice if he will rule out the introduction of ID cards of any description in Ireland.
I have no proposals at present in relation to the introduction of ID cards on a general basis.
In the context of measures to curb under-age drinking, section 40 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988, empowers the Minister for Justice to make regulations for the introduction of a national voluntary scheme of age cards to assist in the enforcement of the licensing laws. The question of the making of regulations is under consideration.
