Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Kilkenny Case Decision.

Séamus Pattison

Ceist:

113 Mr. Pattison asked the Minister for Health when he will make a decision on the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

The Deputy's question concerns entry to a special superannuation register maintained under section 65 of the Mental Treatment Act, 1945 (as amended by section 41 (4) of the Mental Treatment Act, 1961).

Entry to the register is a matter for the Mental Hospital Authority, in this case the South Eastern Health Board, in the first instance. The legislation, however, entitles a person to complain to the Minister at the failure or refusal of a mental hospital authority to enter his/her name in the register. The Act requires the aggrieved person to make any complaint in writing. In the event of such a complaint being received, I will ensure that it is given full and prompt consideration.
