Vol. 400 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Schools Timetables.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

117 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction the provision of 30 part-time hours for a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary, to enable the provision of subjects such as physical education, art and home economics which are essential for the complete education of the pupils; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

118 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education if she will give an assurance that a staff member in a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary will not be redeployed due to bringing unplaced principals within school quotas; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 117 and 118 together.

Part-time hours are sanctioned, for a limited period, in order to give breathing space to a school to adjust its time-table resulting from the non-replacement of a teacher due to a resignation, retirement, career break or in the event of the redeployment of a teacher.

My Department will consider an allocation of part-time hours for the school in question, in the above context, should an application be made to my Department.

The position is that under the terms of the redeployment scheme for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools, no teacher will be redeployed from the Patrician-Presentation secondary school, Fethard, County Tipperary for the coming school year 1990-91.
