Ceist:35 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when he will introduce regulations under the Abattoirs Act, 1989, for the control and operation of knackeries; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Commencement of those provisions of the Abattoirs Act, 1988, which relate to knackeries is being deferred pending the outcome of current EC discussions in relation to harmonised rules for the disposal of carcases, slaughter offals and other animal waste.
