Written Answers. - Meat Industry Job Creation.

49 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the progress that has been made in meeting the job creation targets for the beef industry, pig processing and sheep sectors as contained in the Programme for National Recovery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Programme for National Recovery provides for the creation of 1,000 new jobs each in the beef and pigmeat sectors and 200 new jobs in the sheepmeat sector. Up to the end of 1989 it is estimated that the number of new jobs created in these sectors was: beef, 360; pigmeat, 250; sheepmeat, 50.
