Edward Nealon

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

123 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if, following the decision to have the regional swimming pool in Sligo constructed on a design/build basis, invitations to tender for the project have issued; and when it is anticipated that the contract will be allocated.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 122 and 123 together.

Offers were invited by public advertisement on 17 May 1990, from development consortia for the design, finance, construction and operation of the Sligo Sports Centre which will consist of a 25 metre X 5 lane swimming pool and health centre in addition to the existing dry sports centre.

Consortia were also invited to submit proposals for the provision of additional indoor and outdoor sport and leisure facilities to be funded by the consortia on the designated site. The closing date for the receipt of submissions was 21 June 1990.
The submissions received, some of which are for the design and construction only of the centre, are at present being examined by my Department with a view to shortlisting consortia to proceed to the design stage, which will also include financial and management proposals based on a detailed brief prepared by this Department in consultation with Sligo Corporation.
It is not possible at this stage to say when a contract will be placed for the project.
