Vol. 401 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Gas Service.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

54 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline his proposals, if any, to assist residents in the Dublin area who have been advised that Dublin Gas do not intend to service their houses due to high costs of laying service pipes.

There are no funds available to me out of which assistance could be made available to the residents in question.

The Government, as part of their Environment Action Programme, have provided £3 million in 1990 to minimise the costs for low income groups arising from the need to use smokeless or low smoke fuels as a result of the ban on the sale and distribution of bituminous coal in the Dublin area from 1 September next. These funds will be administered by the Department of Social Welfare.
