103 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the present position in relation to waiting lists for ear, nose and throat surgery in Temple Street hospital, Dublin 1 and Beaumont hospital, Dublin 9; the total number on the lists; and the length of time it takes to move off the lists.
In order to ensure that emergency and urgent cases can be dealt with promptly, patients' positions on the waiting list are kept under review and are subject to change. The precise length of time spent on the waiting list for admission depends on the urgency of each individual case. There are 801 cases on the waiting list for admission for ENT surgery at Temple Street hospital and 373 on the waiting list in Beaumont hospital. It is estimated that in 1990 1,800 ENT procedures will be carried out in Temple Street hospital and 2,400 in Beaumont hospital.
