Written Answers. - Hip Replacement Operations.

Ceist:

104 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the total funding available to Cappagh hospital, Dublin 11; the approximate cost of a hip replacement operation and the number of hip operations carried out weekly; and the waiting list which exists for hip replacements.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out hereunder:

(i) The 1990 allocation to St. Mary's Orthopaedic Hospital, Cappagh is £4.8 million.

(ii) The approximate cost of a hip replacement operation at Cappagh is £3,200.

(iii) The average weekly number of hip operations performed at Cappagh is 12.
(iv) The waiting list for hip replacement operations at Cappagh was 580 at the end of May 1990.
425 hip replacement operations were performed at Cappagh in 1989. The projected number of hip operations to be performed at Cappagh in 1990 is 600.
