Ceist:

44 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the number of vacancies for the post of radiographer and radiologist in the eight health board areas; the number of persons currently undergoing training in respect of the professions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The number of unfilled posts of radiographer and radiologist by health board is as follows:

The number of persons undergoing training is as follows:

With regard to the training of radiographers, my Department are at present considering what action can be taken to expand the number of training places and in this regard consultations are taking place with the Department of Education regarding the future organisation of training.

With regard to the training of radiologists, I am satisfied that the numbers in training are more than adequate to meet vacancies arising in the services.
