Vol. 402 No. 4

Written Answers. - Boyle Drainage Scheme.

John Connor

Ceist:

33 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Finance if he will give an assurance that the works programme on the Boyle drainage scheme, County Roscommon, will include cleaning and deepening operations on the main stem of the river from Lough Gara through Tinnecanow to the main bridge in Boyle town, due to the serious flooding all along this section.

The main stretch of the Boyle River between Lough Gara and Boyle Town is included in the Boyle scheme for maintenance purposes only. Clean-up works are expected to commence on this stretch of channel in the latter half of 1991 or early 1992, when excavation of the Lung and Breedoge rivers is completed and larger machines become available. The channel will subsequently be maintained by the Commissioners of Public Works.
