59 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if she will instruct or inform all principals of third level colleges that students in receipt of European Social Fund grants be permitted to be absent on Wednesday, 7 November 1990, in order to vote in the Presidential Election without forfeiting their portion of the grant on that day; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
The ESF training grants scheme operates in regional technical colleges and colleges of technology in accordance with regulations issued by my Department. In response to a number of representations received from colleges on this matter my Department agreed that trainees living away from home will be given leave of absence on 7 November 1990 without loss of grant where such leave is required in order to vote in the Presidential Election.
