201 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education when her Department will refund the £1,600 spent on resurfacing and the £600 spent on basketball and volleyball equipment by St. Fintan's national school, Taghmon, County Wexford, the receipts for which have been submitted to her Department on two occasions; whether it is intended to refund to the school the £1,475 owing since the building of the extension to the school in 1985; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
202 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education when she will sanction repairs to the roof of St. Fintan's School, Taghmon, County Wexford, where a class of 39 senior infants is being taught in a room which has been leaking rain water for over a year; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department is awaiting a report and recommendation from the local Office of Public Works in respect of the resurfacing of the yard and basketball and volleyball equipment at St. Fintan's national school, Taghmon, County Wexford. Subject to the works being certified as satisfactory there will be no delay on the part of my Department in having the appropriate grant paid to the school authorities.
Arrangements are in hands to pay the balance of the grant to the school authorities in respect of the extension to the school. Every step will be taken to ensure the payment of the amount due at the earliest date.
The local Office of Public Works has investigated the matter of the leaking roof at the school and has the preparation of tender documents for the necessary remedial works in hands. When these have been completed they will be sent to the school authorities to enable them to seek tenders. On receipt of a suitable tender the Department will sanction a grant for the works and approve the placing of the contract.
