Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nature Reserve.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Ceist:

75 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the plans his Department have to develop the nature reserve at Baldoyle Estuary, Dublin 13; when he intends to publicise such plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A nature reserve is established in order to protect the ecosystem of the area in which it is situated and to ensure the conservation of the various species of flora and fauna which inhabit the site.

Baldoyle estuary is primarily a refuge for wintering waterfowl. The wildlife service intend to erect signs and interpretative boards on the site next year. There are no plans for development of pathways at present. Consideration will be given to producing a leaflet for this site.

Regulations for managing the reserve are currently being drafted. I am not in a position to give a date for implementation of the regulations as opportunities for comment will first be given to various interests involved.
