Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Boyle (Roscommon) Drainage Scheme.

Matt Brennan

Ceist:

76 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Finance the up-to-date position regarding the work programme on the Boyle drainage scheme, County Roscommon; and if this programme will include cleaning and deepening operations on the main stem of the river from Lough Gara to the main bridge in Boyle town, due to the flooding along this section.

About 60 per cent of the scheduled works of the Boyle catchment drainage scheme has been completed to date. As I informed the House in reply to a similar question from Deputy Connor on 1 November last, the main stretch of the Boyle river between Lough Gara and Boyle town is included in the scheme for maintenance purposes only. Clean up works are expected to commence on this stretch of the channel in the latter half of 1991 or early 1992, when excavations of the Lung and Breedoge rivers are completed and larger machines become available. The channel will subsequently be maintained by the Commissioners of Public Works.
