Vol. 402 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Fair Trade Commission Reports.

John Bruton

Ceist:

15 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the following reports of the Fair Trade Commission will be published: (1) the report on professional services of Patent and Trade Mark Agents, which was presented to him in February, 1989 and (2) the report on the Merit and Demerits of the Prohibition and Control of Abuse System for the regulation of competition in Ireland as based on Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome, which was presented to him in January, 1990.

The preparation of a competition Bill which will extend the provisions of Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome to domestic competition policy is now at an advanced stage and I expect to have it published shortly. It is my intention to have the Fair Trade Commission Report on Competition published at the same time.

At present I have no plans to publish the report on professional services of Patent and Trade Mark Agents. My Department are currently dealing with the report by the Fair Trade Commission on the legal profession. I regard this work as a top priority.
