49 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if, following his recent announced approval for 17 new railway carriages to be purchased by CIE at a cost of £18 million, he will confirm that these will be constructed at the CIE Inchicore Works, Dublin 8.
Arising from my recent decision to authorise CIE to incur expenditure of up to £18 million on new diesel railcars, I have been informed by the chairman of CIE that the construction of these railcars at Inchicore, or alternatively, their acquisition from other sources is being considered by the company.
I expect to receive proposals in this regard from the board shortly. The matter will then be the subject of detailed discussions between CIE and my Department.
