Written Answers - Energy Link Proposal.

Ceist:

69 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Energy if his attention has been drawn to the potential source of energy for this country from Iceland; the exploratory steps which have been initiated to evaluate the feasibility of a direct supply of electricity to Ireland from Iceland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No consideration is being given to any energy link with Iceland as there are enormous technical problems and the costs would be prohibitive bearing in mind the length of the route and traversing such deep and hostile seas as lie between both countries.
