Vol. 402 No. 8

Written Answers - Dublin Corporation Dwellings Improvement.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

94 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the requests which Dublin Corporation made to him in relation to the borrowing of money to finance the building of bathroom extensions during 1989-90; the reason he did not approve the amount of borrowing requested; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A capital allocation of £2.02 million was sought by the corporation for the provision of bathrooms/showers in their rented dwellings last year. Loans to a total of £968,000 were made available by the Department and the corporation were authorised to meet the balance of their expenditure from internal housing capital receipts.

The corporation sought approval to the borrowing of £1.06 million for this work in 1990. Since a separate capital allocation was not made this year for this type of work, the corporation were advised that the work could be financed from the allocation of £5 million notified to them in February under the remedial works scheme. The most recent information received from the corporation indicates that by the end of October, some £547,000 had been spent this year on the provision of bathrooms/showers.
