Vol. 402 No. 9

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Therese Ahearn, the serious delay with the commencement of the community school in Cashel, County Tipperary; (2) Deputy Michael Moynihan, the serious position of applicants for rehousing in the Killarney Urban District Council area due to the Minister's failure to make the necessary funds available; (3) Deputy Gerry O'Sullivan, the serious situation regarding local authority housing in Cork city; (4) Deputy Brian O'Shea, the need for the Minister for Education to appoint a remedial teacher to the County Waterford Vocational Education Committee scheme; (5) Deputy Nora Owen, in view of Dublin County Council representatives' opinion that resources should not be made available for a 30 family site for travellers at Mulhuddart, County Dublin, if the Minister will make resources available for a number of smaller sites in the Dublin area; (6) Deputy Seán Ryan, the allocation made by the Minister for the Environment for the construction of a halting site at Mulhuddart, County Dublin, given the opposition of both the local residents and the travellers to the size of the proposed site;

(7) Deputy Nuala Fennell, the need for intervention to prevent the re-zoning of land known as Ballycullen/Jones Farm at the foot of the Dublin Mountains as this represents unacceptable encroachment into a high amenity area of County Dublin; (8) Deputy Tomás Mac Giolla, the findings of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General that the £66.7 million of tax revenue foregone under the business enterprise scheme has led to little net gain in terms of job creation, and the manner in which the Government intend to respond to this finding; (9) Deputy Pat McCartan, the decision of a district court yesterday to sentence a 15 year old girl to 18 months in Mountjoy Prison because no secure therapeutic unit was available although a place in such a unit had been recommended by the probation service; (10) Deputy Eamon Gilmore, the subject matter of Parliamentary Question No. 186 of 13 November 1990 regarding the pupil-teacher ratio in the primary schools in the Dún Laoghaire constituency; (11) Deputy Seamus Cullimore, if the Minister for Industry and Commerce will investigate the effect of the current price war, where vouchers of up to £6 are being issued with every purchase of goods to the value of £30 on groceries and if he will outline the longterm implications this will have on (1) the customer, (2) the retailer and (3) the supplier; and (12) Deputy Síle de Valera, the status of Shannon Airport, with special reference to scheduled flights, given the importance of Shannon Airport to the whole mid-western region. I have selected for discussion the matters raised by the following Deputies: Deputy Tomás MacGiolla. Deputy Michael Moynihan, and Deputy Terese Ahearn.
