Ceist:

67 Mr. Sherlock asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food (a) the number of veterinary staff employed in his Department's laboratory in Abbotstown, Dublin 15, in each of the years from 1982 to 1990 and (b) the numbers he considers to be the average number of veterinary staff required in the laboratory.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 64, 65 and 67 together.

In general there has not been any particular difficulty in recruiting staff to fill posts in the Department's laboratories in Abbotstown. Recruitment to the laboratory is, of course, subject to the restrictions which apply generally in the public service.

As regards the veterinary staffing requirements of my Department's laboratories at Abbotstown the position is that these were considered in a recent comprehensive review prepared jointly by my Department and the Department of Finance. This report is being examined at present by my Department.
